About Rockaz Book Club

Reggae Online’s Rockaz Book Club focuses primarily on works by Jamaican authors and themes relevant to or directly about Jamaican culture but will also include authors and themes from the Caribbean, Latin America and the diaspora. Through an online community and regular engagement, members will be ably guided and discourse facilitated by three energetic cultural icons who have deep roots in theatre, education, literature and facilitation.

Antonio David Lyons


A multi-disciplinary artist whose storytelling often fuses poetry, music and embodied movement.

He has been a Fulbright Awardee, an Oregon Shakespeare Festival Producing Fellow and a Scholar in Residence at University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). He is the creator of “We Are Here”, a social activism campaign birthed in South Africa. We Are Here has implemented programs and toured in South Africa, Namibia and the USA. Writings about We Are Here, appear in Performance and Politics in Africa; University of Michigan Press. 


Some of his producing credits include: Community Producer, La Comedia of Errors (Oregon Shakespeare Festival); Beautiful Struggle (US Consulate Commission/Market Theatre, Johannesburg); Back2Back Thursdays; We Are Here (premier/ Joburg Theatre) **this poetry based solo show became a multi-person play produced in collaboration with TX Theatre at the Soweto Theatre; Culturefest (Oregon Shakespeare Festival)

He’s released numerous poetry infused music projects which include: Human Jewels (album), We Dance We Pray (album and remix EP) and My Africa (album and remix EP).

He also serves on the board of the Valerie J. Maynard Foundation. 

Shawna-Kae Burns


Shawna-Kae Burns lectures in the Social Work Unit at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Language Linguistics and Society with a Minor in Cultural Studies; from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus; a Masters of Social Work with a Specialisation in Children and Families from The University of Texas at Arlington; And is currently pursuing her Mphil/PhD in Gender and Development Studies at the UWI.RCO. 

Along with being an academic she is also a Jamaican actress who has acted in Ritualistic Theatre pieces honouring famed literary and national heroes and icons. She has published in the Caribbean Journal of Social Work and her work centres on the impact of Social Action Theatre on National Development in Jamaica. Other interests include research within a gender and masculinity studies framework on how popular culture affects the youth, and an exploration of gendered parenting practices within Jamaica. 

She is a self proclaimed lover of all things Jamaican ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous and believes that amongst our creativity and talent Jamaicans are some of the most beautiful people in the world. 

fabian m thomas


fabian m thomas is a Transformational Trainer/Facilitator, Life/Corporate Coach, Adjunct Lecturer, Communications Specialist and Motivational Speaker who has also made his mark across the arts as an Artistic Director, Performing Arts/Theatre Specialist, published writer and poet, actor, and spoken word performer.

He holds a B.A. in Mass Communication and Literature (UWI, Mona) and a M.A. in Public Communication (Fordham University, USA). 

Thomas is the founder and Artistic Director of the performing arts collective Tribe Sankofa. He self-published his collection of gratitude verses, affirmations and spoken word entitled New Thought, New Words in 2018. In 2022, he co-authored the poetry/spoken word chapbook Tribal Elements: A Tribe Ting, Vol 1 and published Djembe, his first book for children. He hosts a YouTube talk/interview show called Fabian Seh!

He is driven by his passion and commitment to training/facilitation and the arts as tools for transformation.
